About the role

CS Technology is seeking a MEP Design Engineer who can design MEP solutions and manage project deliverables from end to end in a client facing environment.

General Responsibilities​

Lead assessments of data center facilities including interviews of facilities’ engineering, operations & maintenance staff to document detailed understanding of architecture/structural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, network connectivity, and security systems supporting the facility

Real-time review of As-Built MEP Construction Documents for system capacities, conveyances, and concurrent maintainability

Display detailed understanding of Uptime Institute Tier requirements to identify relative status of an existing facility and describe design for improvement

Provide recommendations with respect to systems selection, sizing, location, and operations

Conduct RFP, bid meetings, and scoping meetings, constructability reviews, and referral evaluations, and value engineering of project drawings and schedules to optimize client’s benefit

Lead Construction Team, including providing direct instructions to General Contractor

Manage delivery and equipment logistics

Monitor project work to maintain schedule, budget and compliance to contract

Implement change management program (preparation, negotiation and ongoing management of impact of proposed changes on cost, schedule and deliverables)

Develop schedules of values, review purchasing, review pay applications, manage contingency reserves, and manage cost-to-complete against budget

Provide on-site construction Project Management to monitor construction to ensure compliance with plans, specifications and approved submittals while acting as liaison between team members, contractors and operators ensuring coordination of all trades to complete project on schedule.

Generate/review field reports, track and follow up on requests for information, prepare punch lists and monitor completion

Coordinate and communicate with project managers and other team members with respect to project status and performance

Specific Responsibilities

Scope/Change Management:

Ensuring resource efforts remain focused on the established goals, objectives, deliverables and targets established for the project

Interacting with internal and external project resources to ensure evaluation, final disposition and communication of changes to project scope via a formal change control process

Schedule Management:

Creating integrated project schedules including tasks, milestones, resource assignments, and task dependencies resulting in a clear understanding of critical path activities.

Monitoring and tracking performance to the project schedule by interacting with project team members and conducting regular team status meetings

Updating and communicating the project schedule weekly

Risk/Issue Management:

Facilitating identification of Risks and Issues that may affect project deliverables and targets, and interacting with project team to develop and implement migration strategies and corrective actions to ensure minimum impact to the project

Communication Management:

Communicating project health and status to project team members, management, committees and key stakeholders as per established reporting schedules, following reporting guidelines as per the communications plan, and using a standard PM tool set.

Financial Management:

Create initial baseline and detailed technology budget. Manage and maintain all aspects of project financials including change orders, timesheets, invoices, contingencies, etc.

Quality Management:

Establish a Quality Management Process and ensure all quality metrics are met throughout project implementation.


Bachelor of Science in Engineering, Computer Science, IT, Math, Physics or Engineering

7+ years’ experience with MEP systems evaluation, design, and construction oversight (construction administration) experience with large-scale corporate office and data center projects

Successful completion of Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) is preferred

Registered Professional Engineer (PE) is preferred

Competence with leading Computer Aided Design (CAD) packages (AutoCAD, Revit) with ability to create comprehensive design packages

Exceptional client-facing skills, with requisite verbal and written communication skills necessary to clearly articulate technical details, cost / schedule / risk tradeoffs, field coordination challenges, and general construction progress

Ability to effectively manage numerous simultaneous projects, balancing the ebbs and flows of the typical evaluation, design, construction, and BAU process

Basic project management experience

Excellent time management and conflict/contention management skills

Minimum 5 years experience in designing, developing, construction estimating, and managing large, complex data center construction projects

Experience managing multiple simultaneous construction projects and establishing remote management systems to ensure compliance with project requirements

Consulting background (2 years minimum) with an engineering or technology professional services entity

Commercial experience, including new construction and retrofits of existing facilities

Ability to interface and manage clients with emphasis on excellent customer relationship skills

Excellent communication skills that include both verbal and written presentations

Must be able to present to senior facilities and technology managers.

Ability to travel throughout the US and abroad
