Infrastructure Operations:
Major Global Bank
Having a strong commitment to near-complete availability, and taking proactive measures to manage capacity in ways that accommodate both normal and peak demand periods, is a critical requirement for IT organizations tasked with processing massive amounts of information. Without those measures, IT staff may function under near-constant stress as they work to meet unanticipated demands and shore up problem areas that have the potential to compromise customer response times.
Challenge
Our client, a major global banking institution, had imposed shared expectations for high availability on a number of business administration units (BAUs) and challenged them to build support models and processes – and increase staffing levels – to meet peak requirements. However, this 24/7 availability requirement didn’t differentiate critical needs from typical BAU delivery cycles. As a result, expedited requests – and the budget overages required to support them – had become standard operating procedure, since they were viewed as necessary to keep up with demand.
Solution
In response, CS Technology’s Enterprise Infrastructure Solutions (EIS) group designed and implemented an end-to-end structured cabling program that centralized all planning, design, project management, procurement, dispatching, installation, certification, and invoicing activities. EIS consultants developed a centralized Managed Service Vendor (MSV) support program to ensure consistent delivery among third-party vendors, and implemented our proven method for managing cabling-related considerations at the enterprise level. In addition, EIS team members provided the client with programmatic resource deployment capabilities via our proprietary iWMS, which brings reporting, tracking, and management visibility into the IT project process.
Result
This scaled approach provided significant cost savings for the client and strengthened its ability to deliver a consistently high level of capacity in response to fluctuations in demand.
